Description

Advanced technology, service and a commitment to doing good for our local community are our core values. We are seeking a Physician Assistant for our oral and maxillofacial practice (Michigan Center for Oral Surgery www.mymcos.com) who aligns with these values. This person will work in a multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of a board certified oral maxillofacial surgeon in an outpatient clinic care setting.


Clinical responsibilities may include:

  • Perform and document the preoperative medical assessment and evaluation of the patient
  • Perform and document post-operative assessment and evaluation of the patient
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Start IV lines and/or administer local anesthesia
  • Review, request, and order (as permitted by Michigan law), laboratory/diagnostic studies
  • Obtain informed consent for anesthesia and surgical services
  • Discharge the patient from the post anesthesia care
  • Implement acute and chronic pain management
  • Manage emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining disposition of patients, including providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using basic and advanced cardiac life support technique
  • Coordination of care with general dentist

Nonclinical

Additional nonclinical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Quality assessment and quality assurance.
  • Didactic and clinical education of staff

Patient Safety

Supports patient safety when performing his or her job functions and through participation in department patient safety initiatives.

  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge

Professional Development

  • Participates in monthly departmental meetings
  • Seeks ongoing professional educational growth


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current active state licensure in the state of Michigan and complies with any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning
  • Graduate of a certified physician assistant educational program
  • Currently certified as physician assistant
  • Insured by an appropriate medical malpractice policy
  • Competency in the clinical responsibilities specified below

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical staff and other disciplines
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques, HIPAA and OSHA standards
  • Ability to implement and adhere to facility policies and procedure
  • Take monthly call
