Description

Licensed Geologist Needed for Environmental Assessment Projects

Seeking a Licensed Geologist to partake in environmental assessments on former grain storage sites across Nebraska and Iowa. The ideal candidate will tackle Preliminary Assessment/Site Investigation (PA/SI) to pinpoint and address potential contamination from past USDA operations. Responsibilities include conducting thorough site investigations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, preparing detailed reports, and managing project activities. Must be a Licensed Geologist with experience in PA/SI, familiar with CERCLA, NCP, and state laws, possess strong analytical and communication skills, and capable of leading subcontract management. Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research and investigation at designated sites to confirm contamination presence, warrant additional investigation, or classify for NFA.
  • Perform site reconnaissance, including reviewing historical records, maps, aerial photography, and any other relevant information to support fieldwork and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), National Contingency Plan (NCP), and state remediation regulations.
  • Manage and coordinate all activities needed to execute the requirement, including subcontract management and maintaining organizational lines of authority.
  • Conduct field investigations focusing on sampling of shallow groundwater media and soil or soil gas as required, ensuring compliance with site-specific work plans accepted by the USDA.
  • Prepare and submit PA/SI screening reports with comprehensive data and recommendations for each site investigated.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Geologist with a strong background in environmental science or related field.
  • Proven experience in conducting PA/SI work, preferably related to agricultural or industrial sites.
  • Familiarity with CERCLA, NCP, and state remediation regulations.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and integrate teamwork efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in managing relationships with government agencies and stakeholders.
